A number of shredders from Rexel feature Mercury Anti-Jam Technology (or Rexel Jam Free Technology as it's also known), a handy feature which is intended to stop paper jams that are the result of overfeeding - so here’s a quick overview of how it works.
Every shredder has a sheet capacity limit and the Anti-Jam Technology feature means that the shredder will only shred stacks of paper within this limit. So, for example, if a shredder has a capacity to shred 12 sheets at a time then this technology means that you will not be able to shred any more sheets than this.
So, how does it do it?
The shredders featuring Mercury Anti-Jam Technology have sensors in the paper feed area which measure the thickness of the paper you are attempting to shred. A system of lights then lets you know whether the stack is within the limit - green means you are OK to shred, and red means you are trying to shred too much paper.
The feature therefore saves you having to remember the sheet capacity limit and also stops you accidentally shredding too much paper and wasting time trying to clear any jam that could result. If however, you do experience a paper jam you can always use the shredder’s reverse feature to help clear it.
